Working with Art and Assembly, who constructed the sculptures, I specified, imported and programmed the LED mesh which illuminates the resin sculptures. The LED Mesh is effectively a video screen, so I programmed the waves in Touch Designer using provided ocean temperature and salinity data. I created a system which loops over the dataset and feeds the values into a GLSL Shader which renders the waves. This approach allowed us to fine-tune the ranges of brightness, colour and pulse speed on the fly before finialising them into a video file which is played from a media player for better reliability.

Breaking News

Breaking News is a small news studio installed in the gallery, but when the teleprompter rolls, the stories are not those which are actually happening. Rather than a traditional newsgathering operation, the studio relies on AI halucinations, imagining what stories might be taking place in the outside world. An automated system allows the LLM to halucinate stories, scripts, images and videos which are automatically edited into packages and played out as part of the broadcast. Elsewhere in the gallery, a small TV in a living room displays the broadcast.

Immersive Lab Upgrade

Upgrade of Video/Audio/Lighting/Network in the space to modern and flexible IP based systems. Lab users can control all 5 projectors, 14 audio channels and 16 varied lighting fixtures from one connection to their laptop.

Wave height, period, water temperature, and current direction are mapped to synthesis parameters, creating a sonic portrait of the ocean that shifts with the real tides.

Commissioned for a science communication event at the National Maritime Museum, the piece runs as a floor-projected WebGL visualisation paired with a quadraphonic sound system built in SuperCollider. Data is pulled every six minutes from the NOAA API and interpolated smoothly to avoid audible jumps.

Bubble Dreams

Programming and technical assistance during installation of ‘Bubble Dreams’ an interactive artwork by Carolyn Defrin and Paul Burgess. I produced the live-stream as well as managing the switching of the screens in the room using NDI IP Video technology.

Emotional Emergency Kit (EEK)

A piece by Jesse Wolpert and Theo Papatheodorou, EEK is a toolkit to help students manage emotions by selecting an emotion and then using the tools to amplify it or dampen it.
I prototyped and then constructed the physically interactive elements for this installation. They connect to a custom PCB with connectors for each element, so they can be removed for maintenance if necessary.

Workplace Anxiety

Workplace Anxiety imagines AI tools in the workplace as small machines which form their own networks and communities. They chat innocuously between eachother when they are alone, but if someone comes to close, they stop talking and turn to stare at the new arrival, following you as you move around or move away. Once you leave them, they resume their conversation.

Electric Dreams

Electric Dreams was an online symposium. You enter the booth, begin to react to posts as you would on any social media platform. After enough reactions for the system to place you on the political compass, the system targets you, in this case not with an add, but with a loud blast of air.
